Ecochip Fuel Saver: Is It a Scam? Here’s What We Think! [May 2022]

Did you stumble on an Ad for Ecochip fuel saver online? Wondering if Ecochip can really reduce your fuel consumption or if it is another fad product? Read this review to find out everything you need to know about Ecochip OBD2.

According to FTC, online shopping and negative reviews is the second most reported fraud category in 2021. As a result of this, we have taken the responsibility of reviewing products, stores, websites etc. for our reader’s financial safety.

Our Review of Ecochip serves as an eyeopener. We hope it meets you well, and on time.

Ecochip: Legit Gas Saver or Scam?

the website claims the gadget will reduce fuel consumption of 15% – 30%. However, from our findings the claim is totally false. See the inconsistencies observed below –

  • It is just a piece of junk that we’ve seen recycled many times. As of 2017 this same product entered the market. It was ‘Ecofuel’, and similar to Ecochip it didn’t do zilch.
  • What these sites do is buy hundreds (if not thousands) of generic OBD2 fuel savers from China for $3 a piece (or less,) design their own packaging, and re-sell it to you for $40 a piece.
  • Although they’re sold under different names, with unique packaging and have fancy websites, these OBD2 fuel savers are all scams and should be avoided at all costs. See Ecotune and EcoBox.

Eco Chip doesn’t affect fuel consumption in any way. Let’s be realistic – it was only made for profits. It is simply a magnet that you fasten to your fuel line. This chip doesn’t re-align the molecular structure of the fuel before it reaches the fuel injectors. It is just an expensive LED flasher.

Does Eco Chip OBD2 Really Reduce Fuel Consumption?

Ignore the positive reviews online, OBD2 units do not work. When we opened and dissected EcoMax Plug & Drive OBD2 unit, we discovered it is just a junk. First of all, it doesn’t have any drive for CAM.

Secondly, the unit DO NOT have any connection to OBD communication. Only what is connected is Power for the flasher to flash. In order to do what these companies claim, you would have to redesign the car. The major parts of how much fuel any car uses are: vehicle weight, tire size, rolling resistance, friction in moving parts, number of moving parts in the driveline, etc. There is nothing plug and play that can alter these basic factors.

If you’re thinking of reducing fuel consumption, Energy.GOV has a list of helpful fuel-saving tips including combining trips, stripping your car of unnecessary weight, keeping your car in tip-top shape, and how to avoid aggressive driving.

By themselves, each tip might not seem like a lot but, combined over time, the fuel-savings make a difference.

    1. yes I emailed that ecochip place and said they could be scamming. cause i have been machanic for over 35 years kept up with auto changes.obd2 port is to get code readings only your own car or each auto the ecu is programed. they reflas them by your car vin number not hunk of plastic .also to plug chips in they plug in to ecu stage 1,2 or 3 and program to air fuel mix by computer. but that is for like racing. your maf sets air fuel mix,map manifold air pressur camshaft sensor keeps engine in correct timming also knock sensor like preignition knock. it is a scam to rip poor people off i know for a fact plug in obd2 reader you wont even get code unless ecu throws one that is why engine light has to be on first .thankyou.

      1. Ed, as an engineer, I think I know what you’re getting at.
But your English grammar and punctuation is just terrible which makes it all so difficult to understand!

        1. Aww go off. This isnt a master’s thesis, its a scam post. At least he contributed to the article unlike you who are just trolling.

          1. @ JDad, No, you need to go off. Not all of us went to publik skewl . So we can’t understand the gobbledygook he wrote. You, and him are embarrassing.

        1. As a grammar teacher, I was looking for a place to.address this, as well. The errors suggested that the comments did not originate from a native English speaker and that the this information may be a scam, as well. However, I do appreciate the explanations that I could understand, since I’m not an engineer nor a mechanic, therefore had no foundation on which to assess this.

          1. You might want to reread your comment. If you’re going to critique someone’s grammar, make sure yours is correct.

      2. Ed don’t Listen to these assclowns.Your spelling and language is just a little off bud but I totally get your meaning and you were very helpful.Damn people expect a scholar to write the things that they read but only a real Joe,such as yourself could understand it so thank you for your time and effort brother. I liked what you said.

    1. I have made a ton of money on bitcoin brother. Recouped all my initial investment of just a few hundred dollars and several hundred more in pure profit. Sitting on a valuation of a couple thousand pure profit. I know it’s chump change but it works when you buy low and sell high.

  2. anyone wants to ask me abought chip free to do so. but ecochip is a scam obd2 is only to read codes your ecu have put out from the one of engine sensor,s.then engine light be on cause thrown a code. could maf sensor had a surge above 5 or reading po117 running to lean bank 1 or 2 if 4 cyl bank1. but your sensors keep restting ecu how you drive maf is air and fuel mix map manifold air pressure like if you go in high mountains or thin air rests pressure old days you would have to turn air and fuel adjust needles on carbs which older classic cars still have. but no chip plug in obd2 will reset nothing may cause harm if anything.

  4. Modern cars already run ‘lean’ air-fuel mixtures, any leaner to save fuel means a very hot burn that can damage spark plugs and valves! Also when too lean, power drops a lot.
You guys should buy one, do a YouTube video cutting it open and see what’s inside!

    1. Look on you tube there are already many videos on this. I am a retired auto mechanic and to change a cars computer programing, ( for racing) takes a lot more than a 40$ piece of plastic, (3$ in china) save your money and add some injector cleaner, you will get actual results

  5. I ordered two for the “special [email protected] for two at $34.99 and paid an extra $10 for two warranties at $5.00 each. They then charged my card for $86.91!
I wrote to them on their e-mail and called them on the number given. Just got a recorded message. No live person to talk to. My next step is to report them to my bank’s fraud department.

      1. Yes now I get 56 mpg. Also don’t forget to put playing cards in the spokes of your bicycle they make it go faster, really!

        1. baseball cards are for amatuers (sp?). Go all the way to baloons. They don’t last as long but the performance is worth it.

      2. Think they did…2 at that price..looks like
They did not honor the special…
I never buy without checking on sites
Like this ..and BBB…sad in these times
There’s soft robbery going on…with gas
        Heading to 5 a gal…these ….$%&%$
Trying take money from hard working
        People…

      1. 34.99 x 2 + 5.00 x 2 = 79.98 plus 8.66% tax = $86.91. As commented by Jesse Smith, they didn’t give him the 2 for 1 deal ( 2 at $34.99) “Think they did…2 at that price..looks like They did not honor the special…”

  6. I got this too late but keep putting the word out because this is a great scam only making money for the seller and saving old saps like me looking STUPID. When the sale pitch is so long and they say big oil wants them out of business should have remembered the old saying if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Shame on me but keep up the good word Dont Buy Into It,,

  7. I bought one of these a couple of years ago, and then read about a company taking one apart and examining it. They found it doesnt comunicate with anything and only connects to power a small LED that flashes at different frequencies (to act like its working). I emailed the company with my complaint and believe it or not they refunded my credit card payment! Didnt even have to send the unit back. It is indeed a scam. Its a shame people will scam others to make money, for this very short life here on earth.

  8. Gods blessing to you all that share the truth about this “Eco” junk, scam, ripoff item. Your testimonies and even some more detailed knowledge and experience are helping many of us avoid this shameful scam. Thanks again and Gods blessings.
the truth will set you free

  9. It did not do ziltch

Double negative, therefore suggests it did do something.

It should have been written thus ” did ziltch”

  10. the obd2 connector CAN be used to input commands to the computer but it takes something MUCH more sophisticated than this hokey dongle. There ARE legitimate “tuners” or “programmers” that can reprogram or bypass the computer and provide more power and/ or better economy but they raise emissions and are technically illegal – but can be vert effective. expect to pay several hundred dollars and up

  11. If you really want one of these you can buy one on Wish app as low as $2.76! But you’re better off using your money at the gas pump.

  12. Do U notice that they say this device saves gas rather than saying your vehicle will get better gas mileage.Save gas?Save it 4 what?

  13. I too bought one of these and paid for it by Paypal so that if it was, as I suspected, a scam, I could easily get my money back. It came accompanied by a card specifically aimed at Paypal purchasers saying not to claim a refund through Paypal because “the refund process through Paypal can take up to 6 months”. Now I am not only seeking a refund from Ecochip, quoting the ACL, but also referring their comments to Paypal.
