Currently, more than hundred people have complained of receiving this Booking verification code spam email. If you’re one of such persons, there’s no need to feel joyous. This detailed article exposes how this scam works, and how to avoid being scammed.

Booking.com Verification Email Spam: How Do You Know It’s a Scam

First of all, the 20% discount is too good to be true, especially as they claim it’s for any hotel in the world. We’re not saying that genuine discounts can’t be as good, but the catchphrase that the discount applies to for any hotel in the world’ is the bait. It makes it seem as though the possibilities are endless and that, in turn, makes you feel very lucky to have it.

Secondly, the subject line of the email says“Re: verify your account”. If it is indeed from Booking.com, they’d make 20% discount on all hotels the subject line of the email as it is this which would make people click on it.

Another sign that it’s a scam is the email address it comes from. It does not end with @booking.com. Booking.com states that “emails from Booking.com should always come from an account ending in ‘@booking.com’, regardless of the subdomain.”

How Does The Booking.com Verification Code Text Scam Works

The scammers would ask you to verify your identity before you can claim the code. This is where the scam comes in. for their email and home address. There is a blue button that states if people push it they will be able to verify their account. If you press the button, you would leave your personal information exposed and vulnerable.

This scam is quite similar to another ongoing scam, Chronopost Facebook Marketplace scam. The same modus operandi.

What You Should do about this

Don’t fall for the bait. Don’t send them your email or address. If you’ve already done so, be careful not to click on any link when they send you the email.
