Google Voice Code Scam

The scammers target potential victims who’ve listed an item either on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc. They ask for phone number if they didn’t already get it from the listing. Then they tell the victim that they are skeptical and think the seller might be a scammer.

This is where the scam comes in. They pretend to send a Google voice code to the seller’s phone number, then tell the seller to send them the code. If he/she complies, the scammer would ask for their email and home address. With this information they’ve gotten access to the victims google voice account.

This scam is quite similar to another ongoing scam, Chronopost Facebook Marketplace scam. The same modus operandi.
