Complete scam product. Makes promises that are impossible to fulfil, uses fake reviews, fake references to respectable publications etc. 100% junk science designed to separate people from money. Ironically, the most vulnerable that are desperately seeking ways to save money on energy maybe lured into spending over £100 on this useless junk.

The new name for the too-good-to-be-true VoltBox. When the ads say it will slash your energy bills by up to 90% but also that you’ll need to wait a few months to see the effect … that’s a red flag right there. As a plug in device to “smooth” your electrical supply it should start working instantly and you should see a difference the same day by checking your smart meter.

The Hidden Truth About Truewatt.co

First of all, Truewatt makes promises that are impossible to fulfill. The advert claims there’s some kind of science behind the product.  However, not only is the ‘science’ complete hogwash, but even the photos of happy customers are just generic commercial pictures. A reverse image search showed the images have been used by similar websites.

Secondly, the website ‘truewatt.co’ mentioned TrueWatt has been endorsed by CNN, Forbes, Techradar, Wired, Techcrunch, Gizmodo, but this is totally false. None of those platforms have ever mentioned VoltMod, not even in passing.

The truth is this ‘there is NO WAY any device of this size can stabilize a home electrical AC supply or produce the savings advertised. Electrical consumption is based on total power consumed and NOT phase corrected VAR. Meanwhile, it only contains a capacitor placed across the power line. This actually might do a little bit of power factor correction, but you are not billed for reactive power at home. So it saves you nothing in money.

Meanwhile, it exposes you to the dangers of electrocution. The capacitor inside the trueWatt device is not rated for connection across the AC line. It is a fire hazard if there is a lightning strike nearby. Capacitors connected directly to the AC line are supposed to have an “X” rating for safety

Meanwhile, there’s nothing unique about TrueWatt, it is not even a genuine product. There is no customer reviews online to verify its claims.

For your information, LED bulbs are the most energy efficient lighting option. It use 75% less electricity than incandescent bulbs. The also have no mercury, and last about 25 times longer than traditional incandescent bulbs. So opt for LED bulbs over incandescent bulbs.

3. Unplug Idle Electronics.

You have devices like televisions, microwaves, scanners, printers, etc.? Unplug them after use! They use standby power, even when off. Some chargers continue to pull small amounts of energy, even when plugged in (a good judge of this is if a charger feels warm to the touch). In the US, the total electricity consumed by idle electronics equals the annual output of 12 power plants (EPA).

4. Use a Power Strip to Reduce Your Plug load.

To avoid forgetting to unplug your devices, use a power strip to turn all devices off at once. Flipping the switch on your power strip has the same effect as unplugging each socket from the wall, preventing phantom energy loss.
